Man and Mirror III presents a gaze that one cannot escape from, since birth and until death. It is both a social and a self-reflective gaze that can be felt through the mirror. Think about it: whenever you look at your own reflections in a mirror, checking if you have dressed properly, you are trying to live up to others’ expectations of what you should look like. This is part of socialization—it is impossible not to care about what others (the society at large) think. But if you are humble enough to reflect upon yourself, you shall find your own reflections gazing back at you. It can be said that this mirror observes detachedly how a person becomes socialized and what he or she sees in himself/herself.
