“Family” by Hung Ji-cheng Hung Ji-cheng graduated from the Sculpture Department in the Fine Art College at the National Taiwan University of Arts. His work “Family” is an extension of the “mother and child” theme seen in Western sculpture. In addition to the mother and the newborn infant in her arms, Hung added the father, who can be seen hugging the mother and child from the back, into the work, showing the viewers all the core components of a family. The people in the work are composed of simplified, thick and organic blocks. The father and mother were given exaggerated and thick legs to signify the strength to support the family and child. However, they were also given square prism-shaped heads with soft edges to differentiate them from the features of the child and increase the variability in this group sculpture.
