Echoes-Crystallization Prying into the trial of death Nowadays, many precious flower species have become endangered along with environmental changes. It is not only nature that changes the environment. manmade causes (such as city expansion) also contribute to the plight. The disappearing flowers make me think of death. Death is often neglected in our routine daily lives. I contemplate over death in the modern world through this artwork and my other projects about air pollution and nursing homes. Not long ago, a major earthquake and the ensuing tsunami caused massive casualties in eastern Japan. This reminds me of the darkness cast upon the world in Mega Death by artist Miyajima Tatsuo. It made me ruminate over death as I stood still in front of it. In this way I could no longer delve into the subconsciousness of death, but felt trapped by the seemingly peaceful and yet in fact dysfunctional reality. I hope to re-create the realm of death through Echoes-Crystallization. Death in everyday life often feels detached from reality and sometimes even invisible. But by appreciating this artwork, one may perhaps review death with more sympathy. (Ohmaki Shinji)
