紅色裡的光 The Lights in the Red
油畫 Oil Painting

The more closely you look at this picture, the more you shall want to delve into it. This nature-inspired painting features a white geometric frame in the center and a red background, both of which reminds one of a maple leaf. The contrast between the artificial (the frame) and the natural (the maple) creates an interesting dialectic between the painted and the blank found in conceptual art. Artworks like this make us reflect upon the subtle differences among things in the world. We tend to look for answers of life in painting, and “light” is that very answer, both historically and scientifically. With light, we are able to see things. When there is a blank space on the canvas resulting from light, we are able to add more colors and shapes, too. The star-shaped blank in this picture is reminiscent of a maple leaf, a common image in daily life.
