“Wall” by Chang Ching-yuan Chang Ching-yuan received his M.F.A from the School for American Craftsmen and the Rochester Institute of Technology. He used tiles and bricks made from unglazed clay to create the work “Wall”. The tiles and bricks were formed into a wall, blending in with the surrounding environment outside the Art Museum. The shape of the wall was made to resemble the traditional Chinese characters for “good luck”. The wall looks as if it is turned upside down, extending outwards and seemingly forming a long hooked shape. The bottom midsection of the wall is made of lines, allowing the work and the surrounding environment to form a moving air current, strengthening the spatial flow around the work. This work, which is the embodiment of good luck, symbolizes the coming of happiness and luck in everything.
