“Square & Circle” by Wu Jing-wen
Wu Jing-wen graduated from the Oil Painting Division in the Department of Fine Arts at the Taipei National University of the Arts. The main components in the work “Square & Circle” are three combinations of squares and circles that have identical dimensions. The three pieces are put together in slightly different ways, and the placement and combination of the square and circles make the work look like a game of segmentation, division, combination and composition. A work that is based upon interaction can actually arouse the audience’s interest in it. The mirror-like characteristic of stainless steel used in the work integrates the shadows and the surrounding natural scenery into the work, thus as viewers walk around it, they feel as if they are in a fantasy world.
