Departing from the early detailed realistic style, HsiehTong-liang made a breakthrough by creating elongated and flattened shape in the early 1980s. Meet by Chance removes the details to create exact and simple sculptural line, clearly capturing the different physical characteristics of men and women. Meanwhile, the square column in the center cleverly connects the interaction between the two figures. The work is simple but yet meaningful with great humor.
