The central theme of this piece is the chemical industry among the Ten Major Construction Projects - the key national infrastructure project of Taiwan in the 1970s. Foregrounded by the yellow, orange and red color graduation, the Kaohsiung Chemical Factory, consisting a large number of oil refineries and variously-heighted chimneys, is illustrated in black. This signifies that the never-ending work of the chemical factory, and shows the vibrant, restless pace of the industry. The variations between the paper and the printing plate surface are nicely unfolded through the carving of the woodblock to show a sense of strength and invigoration.
