Like most other creative realms, cooking continues to evolve because we are motivated by our desire to eat. It is our affection for good food and the dedication to making good food that result in culinary art. The desire to eat therefore becomes a complicated thing, full of history and stories. Perhaps this is what makes mankind different from other animal species. Table, food and people are deeply related to memories and emotions. They are the foundations of stories. Likewise, there are stories to be discovered in this artwork. Who sit opposite to the protagonist? What do they look like? What is their relationship with the girl? Are they happy or sad, at this very moment? I see cooking as a skill when I cook daily meals. When I am emotionally attached to someone, however, cooking becomes an expression of love. As I cook for this person while thinking of him or her, it seems I can also add my thoughts and feelings to food. Cooking then becomes both a physical effort and a practice of love. The perspective taken in this series comes from various corners of the table, and in each image there are certain kinds of food and characters. This is not stereotyping as it seems, but to show the dining experience/imagination shared by most people. The story that might be taking place in each scene can still sound unique and amazing because of the many possibilities lying within.
