Crossing belongs to The Improbable Waves series that I created between 2008 and 2009. During that time, I was invited by famous painter Barry Gealt to study and discuss sea waves with him at his studio. Gealt was quite interested in action painting techniques. While looking at oil paint slowly spread on his canvas, I envisioned myself standing humbly on a boat amidst giant waves. I could do nothing but let the waves lead me through realms unknown. At some other times, I could almost see myself gazing at the infinite horizons on a beach, waiting for the last ray of sun to set. Such visions reflect the longings for my daughter who died not long ago, as well as the urge to seek comfort in Buddhism. Crossing is a 3D animation inspired by the patterns and colors of oil paint. Using opaque oil paint to paint sea water, I hope to present a heavy yet changeable feeling of mine.
