“The Eight Police Officers”, also known as the “Eight Infernal Generals”, is one of the most characteristic forms of traditional and religious ceremonial performance, which has its roots in Taiwan's temple culture. The eight main characters have a dubious nature: they are human beings as well as celestial beings, demons as well as gods. They freely move between different realms: Heaven, Earth and Hell. My sculptural contains sophisticated details of the characters' accessories and shows the heroic bravery of the characters. It is powerful, masculine yet also dreamy and ethereal, as if it had absorbed the true essence of the universe. The ceremony involves that the eight police officers tour around the country to defeat the demons and bring peace back to the community. The praying ceremony is extravagant and wild, but it gives out a sense of holiness, security and peace.(Chen Yi Lang)
