Delicate Sensibilities is inspired by the rapid spatial changes in construction-ridden cities. The artist looks into the small things in life because he’s curious to know more about materialism in human civilization. He believes that, in a consumerist society where things are replicated and produced by large quantity, it is essential to study the traces of time and the essence of things. Thus he collected bits and pieces of wood in different places to form a poetic “wall of time.” The wall symbolizes materials that progress in the world. Viewers are encouraged to observe the wall, whether from a long or a short distance. They shall then discover the beauty of materials and the sense of detachment in a constructed space. By appreciating this quiet installation, whose patterns, rhythm, size and layering seem to evolve continuously, viewers shall eventually attain the “delicate sensibilities” for understanding the void and the real in life.
