If we look into each and every corner of a city, what memories will we find? What will stay in our persistence of vision as a “place”? In this city where time and space continues to change, are we ever going to develop a better vision of an urban utopia? Will this utopia ever become reality, or is it only an embodiment of human imagination?
If we turn real objects in a city into abstract elements of a painting, we can imagine what will be lost. Instead of saying that reality is replaced by abstraction, we’d better say that “the sense of time” and “feelings derived from moments of life” are lost. Therefore, it is not important whether the objects in my painting symbolize something. I only hope to portray a certain “being”: Dasein (by Martin Heidegger), the coming and going of others, the context of a story, the making of a dream, and the existence of me.
