“Play” by Lin Liang-tsai
In the work “Play” there are two walking human shapes, one tall and large, the other short and small. Lin Liang-tsai used two human shaped skin bags that resemble muscle textures and welded them onto two ends of a metal board. The curved and bent metal base is an arching triangle that covers a small dirt hill, which is the reason for the front-back orientation of the two human figures. Lin cleverly made the short human shape in the back a turn to its side and the taller figure in the front turn its upper torso slightly to its right, creating the image of two people looking at each other and bringing out the theme of the work. Lin majored in oil painting at the National Taiwan University of Arts, and when he was 38 he started to learn how to sculpt, which is what he became renowned for later on.
