It can be suggested, to some extent, that a pet owner often projects his or her own thoughts, feelings or emotions onto a pet. We are used to project our own mental states on the external world. When these feelings or emotions are articulated through concrete forms, they become easier for others to identify with. So the perceived loneliness of the pet is a reflection of how lonely we ourselves we feel deep inside. The perceived cuteness of the pet is a reflection of our own innocence. The perceived passion of the pet is a reflection of how we would like to be treated. The medium used for creating The Pets series is corrugated paper – a material which common and everyday, and serves as a great symbol of industrial civilization.
