Lee was dubbed the “variegated bird of art” for his ever-changing painting style and tantalizing creative ideas. He is also a Taiwanese artist pioneering the use of ready-mades in his works. The two pieces belong to his series Gambling Paraphernalia, developed in the 1960s. He embedded ready-mades in the paintings, thereby composing a series of experimental variations on the architectural design of temples in Taiwan.
