Flying Machine above VCA marks a crucial turning point of my art practice, effectively moving my work away from the strictly non-representational approach to a more hybrid style. Whereas some of the visual elements in this painting derive from the cityscape of Melbourne, Australia, many others are familiar elements that characterize my earlier abstract works. I divide this painting into several sections in order to destroy the picture's coherence and to counter its sense of representation. （Chen Shiau-peng）
