Smooth Winds, Quiet Waves Unlike most of Lin’s other ocean paintings, which aims to capture the furious sides of the seas, this one shows a tranquil overlook of the oceans from the Guishan Scenic Pavilion in Yilan. The deep blue waters are so smooth and quiet. On the surface of the giant rocks reaching out to the seas are horizontal lines caused by sea erosions. The author used the crinkling technique to render rich color layers and a diverse texture to the subjects.
