Stories of life continue to take place in this city, including yours and his. Here, everyone is so happy with what they have, that even the smallest matter becomes meaningful. I take a “building block” approach to depict the sunshiny architecture in this painting. As if painting plaster cubes in class, I put layers of paint onto canvas, hoping to turn a concrete city made up of cement, tiles and iron roofs into a warm, slow-paced one. I want to deliver a strong sense of reality even when the city seems to be made up of building blocks in a fantasized setting. By capturing moments of eternity amidst changeable light and shades, I strive to enhance the existence of the city and people’s lives. Upon a closer look of this painting of mine, one can see particles of light sprinkled on rooftops through layers of clouds. The vitality of this city—even the rays of memories— can also be felt through the relatively static use of colors.
