Speaking of how I create artworks, I don’t spend much time on post production. I do, however, carry my camera around, spend a long time observing the world through the camera lens, and search for good subject matters. For me, the world looks completely different through the camera lens than the human eyes. What I want is to present a photographed world in comparison to reality and the distance between the two. Such a paradoxical gaze of the camera is exactly what I hope to express.
I came across the natural spring and the deserted old fountain by chance and via imagination. I usually just make random videos before any ideas come to mind, and this artwork is no exception. What’s interesting about these two places is they both have to do with spring/fountain. I don’t think I can ever make myself clear enough here, but I feel that in these two different cases I have found similar yet different dimensions of time. I want to show that “vision” involves “cycling” and “expansion” in this video installation. The two-faceted vision suggests how nature and mankind can coexist and feel for one another.
