By using traditional techniques of gauche painting, my recent works try to explore the contemporary meanings of these images. In the painting, the man's body is portrayed in the proportion of a Western man as well as the shape of a normal healthy man in modern days. I should note here that Chinese paintings very rarely depict naked human bodies - especially the male body - except in pornography. But I think male bodies can also be beautiful. Praising the human body started in Western civilization as far back as the ancient Greek. However, in Eastern cultures, images that highlight the beauty of human bodies seem to remain absent to date. Images of this kind are rare; and if any, they have tended to be negatively regarded as pornographic or immoral. I don't know why it has been like this. Perhaps my work will be labeled as "pornographic" or "immoral" as well, but this is my artistic thinking. I am just being truthful to myself.
