Created by Chiao Shih-Tai between 1987 and 1988, namely during the transition from “abstract nature” to “mental-image nature” as the artist defines the phases of his creative practice, this large triptych was on view at the NTMoFA’s grand exhibition “Pioneers of the Avant-Garde Movement in Taiwan: From Li Chun-Shan to His Disciples” in 2019. In this work, the artist arranged lines and color blocks in an ingenious fashion, and then resolutely left some sharp traces with scrapers, thereby embedding rich visual elements in the generally harmonious composition.
