The Forgotten Corner tells the story of a 20-year-old iron factory run by my family. Having lived through the bitter-sweet old days, it not only carries memories shared by the family, but also tells the nostalgia that anyone with a past can relate to. I portray the old machines and gadgets found in a forgotten corner of this factory at sunset time. The factory seems to be slowly dissolving into history on the far horizons, and so are the corner and everything there. But they really are more than some useless remains of life, because the entire family used to rely on them to make a living. The painting series relentlessly reveals the fact that these objects are no longer needed, as people nowadays opt for a quick and indifferent way of doing business. In a way it also shows that globalization means death for historic trades.
