I choose to draw in a single color (black) in order to more calmly reflect upon things, to keep myself from the temptations of colors, and to focus more on lines and shapes. At the same time, I turn all the inner noises and disturbances from the outside world into straightforward imagery, discarding all ugly truths to come up with a “purified,” fairy-tale-like landscape of mine. The “evolution” that I refer to in the title is also a “purge of the self” for me. It is about my own rosy picture of the daily life, as well as my silent protest against its uncertainty and stalemate. At the end, the point of making this artwork is neither portraying reality nor presenting some profound motif. I hope every viewer can find a way to set their minds free, or a spiritual landscape where they can rest as much as they can, by following the many dots, the flowy lines, or some indescribable structure in this painting.
