In The Balcony City Series, I solidify spaces into objects like boxes, and pile them up one after another to build a city. This in a way reflects how city dwellers perceive their surroundings, where reality and illusions overlap. To a certain extent, most artists also live in boxes (studios), and each artist naturally develops dialectics on his or her own box (studio), such as whether he or she exists in this self-constructed artistic space at all. Whether I have taken a two-dimensional or three-dimensional perspective is not the point, because space should always be perceived by one. This is exactly why I created the series, because I want to suggest that modern people actually live in perceptible spaces, and not indiscernible ones.
