“Tablet of Life” by Guo Ching-jr
Guo Ching-jr graduated from the Art Department in the Fine Arts College at the National Taiwan University of Arts. His work “Tablet of Life” is a conceptual sculpture with a commemorative stele in it. Guo used granite and stainless steel, two very different materials, to serve as a contrast and bring out a new and strong infectious feel in his work. Under the light refracting from the mirror-like stainless steel, the thick, heavy and rustic red granite has a phantasmal and blinding effect, hinting that life is always changing and nothing lasts forever, but at the same time showing the various aspects of life while giving off a hopeful vibe. These differing ideals, along with the textures and shapes, give the work a conflicting force that is full of contrasts, strengthening the modernism and expressive power of the work.
