I used single colors to create this artwork while introducing subtle details and layers of shades. I didn’t start with a large color background but comprising the picture with slices, lines, grains and drops of paint. My creation began with these tiny units that were repeated, piled up, and accumulated. They gradually formed various color fields following the same rhythm and expanding themselves in the painting. The repetitive act of painting is like occupying and pulling the space on the canvas around. In the meantime this also gives a different spatial meaning to the painted units. As the shapes on the canvas become irregular from being round, and from filling the space to overwhelming it, I also feel the creative process is like a contrapuntal journey between introspective reflections and outreaching pursuits.
