狻猊圖 The Suan-Ni
油畫 Oil Painting
周信宏 Chou, Hsin-Hung 1975
162.0 x 130.0 cm
Artwork ID 09900047
This piece is inspired by the shoaling of fish which, in biology, refers to any group of fish that stay together for social reasons. By staying together, smaller fish defend themselves against the depredations of bigger fish. Using the shoaling of fish as a metaphor for the way in which the endangered species are struggling for survival against human-induced threats. This painting is intended to serve as a critical reflection on the amount of damage that human beings have inflicted on our environment and on the relationship between the individual, the group and the wider environment.(Chou Hsin-hung
