In She is My Aunt, through wordplay, I (as an invisible force) turn “Auntie” the protagonist into a powerful medium between the real and the unreal. The film records every detail of an incident like an octopus exploring its surroundings with its antennas. It seems there is a camera moving around secretly with a news coverage team like a parasite. When everyone involved in the video, including the voice actor, starts calling the protagonist “auntie,” this ordinary incident becomes a news event and deviates from truth. I want to suggest that, as our lives become more influenced by the media, we also unconsciously move away from real life and familiarize ourselves with potentially false images in media coverage. In the end, the media become a creator of truth. Even images in the virtual world become more “real” than our true selves.
