When wandering around in a Chinese classical garden, I am often astonished about how my body movement has become part of the landscape. When I look at everything in the garden, I realize that every bit of the scenery was moving with my movement. In our modern urban civilization, all unique cultures and traditions are gradually homogenized due to the widespread of the internet. Everything that is presented to us is the result of selection and collage. Through our chosen window, we can decide the viewpoint of the world where we exist, and to move in and out of the virtual environment. The title of this painting, “Scenes of This World”, is borrowed from the Buddhist concept of our material world. By borrowing this concept, I try to give the genre of landscape painting a new dimension.(Shen Hong Chin)
