Many boys and girls live happily in the Paradise of the Ageless Village, where no one ages, and therefore notions of aging or skincare is totally irrelevant. The image shows children playing and laughing all over the village. With no sorrow and no need to contemplate upon serious issues relating to life, residents of this village will never grow old. But as we look closely, we would soon realize that screws are placed inside every joint of every child. I employ this metaphor to signal the point of contradictions between technology and nature/humanity. The notion of Ageless Village derives from the collective anxiety in our society about external beauty. It seems that the entire society is preoccupied with the tireless pursuit of youth and beauty, fair-colored skin and fashion. Chemically produced cosmetics are continually applied to prevent the aging of skin. It should be noted that since Antiquity, the pursuit of external beauty and long-life has always been central to human preoccupation regardless of cultures or societies; the only differences lie largely in the methods employed. It seems that the more closely we observe the modern way of life, the more we endanger our own relationships with nature. In a cheerful and humorous manner, my work features a Paradise in the Ageless Village. This is intended to sneer at all the absurdity that stems from the society's ever-increasing zeal regarding youthful beauty and skincare. This is, in fact, a century-long social phenomenon, and one which has continually been a talking point for each and every generation.
