“Harmony” by Lai Chuen-chuen In her early years, Lai Chuen-chuen specialized in abstract paintings, and later on she switched to sculpting minimalist sculptures. In recent years, she started to use various types of mediums along with lighting and neon effects to create public art. The work “Harmony” aims to find the source for freeing one’s soul and evoke people’s thirst for beautiful experiences in their lives and the world. Lai used bronze and stones from Wenshui Creek in Miaoli County as the materials for her work. She chose naturally-shaped stones that will continue to be shaped by the forces of nature to symbolize the ideal of being in harmony with nature. The large round metal pieces are purposely bent to form a space for viewers to walk in and out of to look for the essence of beauty in a place where humans and nature mingle with one another.
