The English name for this film is Bardo. It comes from Sanskrit and is directly translated into Chinese as ZhongYin (中陰). It means between (bar) two (do), signifying between death and reincarnation and implies hazy, indistinct darkness, and life and death. The content in the Chinese film concerns the Christian idea of hell and judgment. At the moment that life passes away, what do people think? Is it be regret or yearning? The body only exists for a limited time, what is actually important in this life and this world? The film rhythmically alternates between poetic and brutal feelings and presents an examination of the meaning of life.
