“Position-holding” by Tu Kuo-wei
Tu Kuo-wei graduated from the Accademia di belle arti Di Roma. His work “Position-holding” expresses the meaning of each person’s emotions toward other things and their thoughts on life. These emotions and thoughts are like forces that simultaneously jostle against each other while expanding outwards. Tu connected a series of similar structures together in a symmetric fashion, making the structure in the middle a point where the left and right parts meet and then continue to extend toward the two ends. This causes two forces to form within the work. One goes outward toward the ends, while the other goes to the middle. Whether the left and right sides of the work jostle inward or extend outward, they create a pulling force within the minds of viewers.
