All I want is to get away from it all, to soar through the blue sky and feel the green grass underneath my feet. This series can be seen as a visual record of my life and work since 1997; I hope they also give a better idea of my art style. It is particularly worth noting that the title of this series “A Rabid Dog in the City” sounds nearly the same as “Chen's Art Style” in Mandarin. There was a period of many years when I didn't produce any work. This, further complicated by all the trivial problems in life, has made me constantly wonder weather it was just a long spell of artist's block, or in fact my lack of artistic talent. However, the light appeared at the end of the tunnel when I first encountered digital drawing, which completely changed my attitude and view of sculpture, as I felt strongly that the combination of modern technology and my training in traditional sculpture has broadened my horizon. Despite taking up a new art form, I remain committed to the theme of the human body, which I have found to be an efficient way of communication. As far as I am concerned, art is always about expressing ideas and feeling, and the chosen method and medium are key to artistic expression. It is all about expressing one's feelings using familiar materials and methods.(Chen Li- an)
