Artistic creation can never depart from its contemporary atmosphere and social context and exist alone. In fact, arts are always the best witness of an era. No matter how the art treats its era—it could be to present the reality or to avoid that on purpose—artistic creations always have some kind of complicated and deep relationship with the contemporary world. Kaohsiung, to me, is not just a name of a city; it is more a place where I was born and grew up. Sometimes, perhaps, I feel embarrassed about this place and even try to get away from there.
