Are there any illustrated guides to our modern society? When a complex social model is being constructed through such a guidebook, it takes references from the existing social models without entirely copying them. At the same time, the social models are often simplified to ensure comprehensibility to readers. It can therefore be suggested that instead of trying to engage in the production of meanings, the illustrated guide provides a reference framework for the interpretation of reality. The joyful games featured in these paintings signify the increased leisure time as a result of industrialization. Having so much free time in our hands, we become bored and begin to drift. Eventually, we shift the focus of our lives from work to leisure – a new religion which reflects the reality of our modern life.（Chuang Tsung-hsun）
