While I searched for objects that can be used as signs, I came up with a “compound structure” that derives its form from animals, plants, people, and products, such as jigsaw puzzles, crossed fingers, waves, cerebral cortex, soft corals, sea anemones, water currents, shells, balsam pears, snake movements, orange pulp, grapes, flowers, leaves, mosquito-repelling plants, wavy skirts, lace, diamond nets, zippers, cogged and wheels. While these objects seem unrelated at first glance, they do share a common image: an ongoing, cyclical, intertwined curvy shape. They would gather up, connect with and cover up one another, grow and move. In a creative approach, I combine my impressions of these objects with their shared image to form this “compound.” The complex has a different look when seen from a different angle. Thus it is free to be interpreted and imaged upon. The “compound” is a new form of life that carries elements of the past. But it is not a copy of anything that we know of. It is about the rediscovery of life and the formation of one’s ideals.
