“Sowing” by Wang Shiou-chi
Wang Shiou-chi graduated from the Sculpture Department in the Fine Art College at the National Taiwan University of Arts. His work “Sowing” is a standing sculpture that needs supporting objects to stay upright, and the supporting objects are usually shaped into decorations. “Sowing” uses a natural stone pillar to support the sculpture of a man sowing seeds, allowing the work to stay upright and not topple under its own weight. Wang uses the fine spots inherent in Guanyin stone as the seeds in the work and to express the softness of the fabric in the clothes on the man’s back. The lifelike people and objects in Wang’s sculpture show how the tireless seed sower patiently and carefully plants the seeds into the soil.
