This series of paintings represent some of my best childhood memories and, more broadly, my passion for the rich history, art and culture of my native land Taiwan. All elements of the paintings are collaged together like memories. Besides, concrete symbols and abstract arrays of colors and shapes fuse together to show how the two clash and grapple with each other when the “once concrete and vivid experience” becomes “fragments of memory” which can only be recollected during the creative process. The entire series can be seen as continuation from my earlier works during my undergraduate and postgraduate years. As the viewers will find out, the image of figurine dolls has begun to appear in this series. I hope that this series would give the viewers a more comprehensive understanding of the context of my thoughts.(Wu Bo Jia)
