Cheng Chung-Chuan is one of the founding members of the Fifth Moon Group, a prestigious painting society in Taiwan’s art history. She has established a substantial presence in Taiwan’s art history, even though she suspended her artistic creation for her family after moving to Japan. Her work Mind is a semi-figurative oil painting created in 2008. Taking a closer look, we may see the interdependence and symbiosis between the robust old tree on the left side and the imagery of a fetus curling up on the right. Along with the bright yellow background and unhindered brushstrokes, a vigorous and thought-provoking imagery emerges from this work.
