The “landscape of lust” has remained an important painting theme for YU Peng since the late 1990s. But in those paintings, pure lust is not really the point. The worldly world full of daily happenings, as well as people struggling to break away from civilization and get back to their true selves, are what the painter really aspires to portray. In this artwork, several naked figures are shown in a row. They have no intention of communicating with one another, but instead only narcissistically showcase themselves. The theatrical setting seems to allow these figures to escape reality and express their yearnings and fantasies as much as they like.
