Formosan Ecology-XI I take painting subjects from life, and I firmly believe it is possible and sometimes necessary to create something viewers can relate to. Thus I examine my own life experiences and delve into hometown Taiwan. I try to interpret social events through satirical metaphors in my works, although I may be sentimental at times. Also, I introduce creative ideas to modern ink painting. Sometimes I would juxtapose various places or situations at once, which is different from traditional spatial arrangement in ink painting. This results in an interesting tension in which confrontations and sympathy are merged. In fact, I have been experimenting different skills to avoid a painter’s destined route. I hope to bring new possibilities to painting and create art in its purest form. I continue reflecting upon life while rendering ink painting a new look. (Lee Chen-ming)
