Ode to Walks of Life, which refers to a painting that describes people’s professions, was a common practice in ancient China. Inspired, Ode to Walks of Life attempts to restore some of the most controversial samples of it. It is presented in the form of an ancient project uncovered in modern days. “The initial time and location of the project may no longer be known. One can infer, however, that it aimed to study and document the laymen’s culture and their lives. The participating researchers must have collected data on human activities at different time and space with different geographical and cultural characteristics, and painted and wrote about them in truthful detail. By reading their papers, one can perhaps have a glance of the spirits and values held by people of a certain period in this big diverse world.”
