Huang Po-jen’s work “Wise Dog” is based on Taiwan Native Dog. He developed a series of dog sculptures, with very deep feelings of Taiwanese natives. With simple pieces and lines, Huang created these proud and unique dogs. Dogs are men’s best friends and partners. They are always quiet by the side. On the other hand, the way dogs show emotions is very straightforward. In opposition, human beings seem to be rather pretentious and fake. In Huang’s hands, dogs can think can play with their mustache. For this reason, dogs’ loyal and straightforward attitudes seem to be wiser than human beings. Huang looks at the world with very critical eyes, manifesting the weaknesses of men by presenting animal images. He does not perceive himself as the only one who is wise enough to realize all these. Instead, he shows the world in a very humorous way and inspires us to think. (Young Artist Collection Catalog)
