Ma Pai-sui (1909-2003)
Ma Pai-sui was born in 1909 in Shanchenggou, Benxi, Liaoning. Ma graduated from Provincial Shenyang Normal College, Liaoning in 1929. Ma taught for many years in mainland China and later taught at National Taiwan Normal University, National Taiwan College of Arts, and Chinese Culture University. He served as a board director of the Chinese Painting Association, a member of the jury for the Taiwan Provincial Art Exhibition, and a review committee member for fine art for the Ministry of Education Literature and Art Award. He authored books including Illustration of Watercolor Painting. Ma won the Golden Earth Ware Award in water color painting at the National Museum of History in 1964, the Ministry of Education Literature and Art Medal in 1965, and the Washington Gold Medal from the US Water Color Painting Association in 1979. He held an 80-year Retrospective Exhibition at the Provincial Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in 1990.
